Klopp backs England for Euro 2022 glory but women's football is the winner, says Liverpool boss

Jurgen Klopp thinks Euro 2022 hosts England are favorites to beat their native Germany in the final, but believes women's football is the winner, whatever the outcome.

The Lionesses will enter their first major tournament final since 2009 after three consecutive semi-final outings over the past decade, where they will face the most successful nation in the competition.

Yet, buoyed by home advantage and a string of quite remarkable results - including a 4-0 demolition of top-seeded side Sweden in the last four - Sarina Wiegman's side will likely enter Sunday's final at Wembley Stadium at shorter odds.

Liverpool boss Klopp will watch his Reds side play their FA Community Shield clash with Manchester City at Leicester's King Power Stadium on Saturday to facilitate the showpiece clash in north London the following day.

The German thinks his adopted homeland and his native nation would be worthy winners, but it's probably England who just overshadowed the pair, while adding that the success of the tournament is excellent for women's football.

"I really have to say that I love women's football," Klopp said. "It's exceptional. The quality of the tournament is crazy. England are doing exceptionally well, and Germany, they [did] very well [too].

"I think it's a very good final, [with] two intense teams facing each other. You can imagine that as much as I love England, in this case my heart is with the German side ,

“[A] sold-out at Wembley with the English crowd, it will be a huge challenge for Germany. But I think the most important thing is the fact that women's football has shown that it is a fantastic game.

"We all knew that before. Women's football in recent years [has] exploded. It's tactically [and] technically at an incredibly high level. The intensity of the game - I love watching it. I love really watch it

"I think England are a small favorite because they play at home, but Germany also have a chance and that's enough."
