Kogi State Assembly Speaker Mathew Kolawole blamed the sabotage on the early morning fire that engulfed the state assembly compound on Monday.

The fire, which razed the hallowed hall of assembly, reportedly started in the early hours of Monday and continued until 8am when a fire engine belonging to Dangote Cement, Obajana, is arrived to put out the fire.

He said he couldn't say specifically who might have been responsible for the fire.

“I cannot say categorically who might have been responsible. I will urge us to wait until the security officers have completed their investigation and send us their reports.

Meanwhile, a senior assembly official, who does not want his name printed, said the fire may have been caused by an explosive planted by a suspected saboteur.

"Only an explosive can cause a crack in the wall like the one in the sacred chamber," he noted.

A statement released later in the day by State Information Commissioner Kingsley Fanwo confirming the incident said technical and security experts were currently working hard to unravel the cause(s) of the incident. inferno which caused significant damage to the complex. .
