Kwara Accord candidate distributes N20m empowerment to widows and youths

As many as 300 widows and 200 youths benefited from an empowerment program worth more than 20 million naira organized by a House of Representatives candidate from the Accord party representing Ekiti/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency /Irepodun/Isin of Kwara State, Hon. Olayemi Afolayan-Jejeloye.

The event, held in Oke-Onigbin, brought together youth and women from all 45 wards of the constituency, including all stakeholders from the different local government areas.

Earlier in his address, the Accord party candidate said the purpose of the events was to empower his people and encourage unemployed youth to be self-sufficient and independent.

Jejeloye noted that the 200 youths from the 45 wards that made up the constituency received point-of-sale devices and start-up grants, adding that each of the widows received groceries with 10,000 naira to support them.< /p>

He urged young people to make judicious use of the devices to earn money and improve their living conditions as well as those of their families.

Jejeloye explained that youth empowerment aims to stop youth unrest and create jobs for young people in the constituency.

He further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all security agencies to expedite discussions on the criminalization of vote buying.

“If vote buying becomes a criminal offence, if people are actually arrested, tried and sent to jail, including politicians themselves, people will abstain and turn away from it.”

Jejeloye praised President Mohammadu Buhari for signing the new electoral law, and said the new law had made the process transparent and fast, saying the speed with which the election results were announced made manipulation and difficult rigging.

"With the new electoral law, the opportunities for rigging and manipulation have been significantly reduced and expressed optimism that 2023 votes will count," he added.

Furthermore, the Accord Party Publicity Secretary Mr. Abdulrasheed Oloyin praised the organizer for his support and urged the people of the region to support the party's candidate for a quality representation in the green chambers for the 2023 general election.

Isin Local Government Area, Accord Party Chairman, Mr. Aremu Olabisi, praised the party candidate for the gesture, saying it would be reciprocated with massive votes for Jejeloye in the upcoming elections.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Shotunde Aminat, thanked the organizer and promised to use the devices for the purpose for which they were intended.
