L.A. Dodgers Pride Night Draws Thousands of Protesters to Stadium

A crowd protesting the Dodgers' decision to invite the controversial Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to its "Pride Night" gathered outside Dodger Stadium today.

The meeting takes place a few hours before the 7:10 first pitch of the team's game against the San Francisco Giants.

The organization "Catholics for Catholics" is the organizer of the demonstration, which so far appears peaceful and unopposed. Most fans attending tonight's game won't show up for several hours.

Protesters are currently in parking lot 13 outside Dodger Stadium. Whether they are trying to disrupt arrivals outside the stadium or protesting inside has not been revealed.

The protest is the latest marker in what has become a public relations nightmare for the Dodgers. They disinvited the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to "Pride Night" when Catholics first protested their involvement, then invited them back when gay rights organizations threatened to pull out of the event. /p>

On Monday, the team was criticized in a statement by Archbishop José Gomez of Los Angeles, Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, and President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Archbishop Timothy Broglio of the military services.

"A professional baseball team has shockingly chosen to honor a group whose lust and vulgarity mocks our Lord, His Mother and consecrated women cannot be overemphasized," the archbishops said. "This is not only offensive and painful to Christians everywhere; it is blasphemy." p>
