The Labor Party has rejected President Muhammadu Buhari's statement that opposition parties lost the 2023 general election because they were complacent and overconfident.

PREMIUM TIMES reported Mr Buhari's statement in which he also accused opposition parties of "tactical missteps".

The ruling party, the APC, won the presidential election, beating the two main opposition parties, the PDP and the Labor Party. APC candidate Bola Tinubu is expected to be sworn in as president on May 29, although the Labor Party and PDP are contesting the election results in court.

In its reaction to Mr Buhari's statement, the Labor Party said that, contrary to the president's claim, he had won the election but was rigged.

"In fact, the Labor Party won the election, but it was brazenly stolen by the APC. Mr. President is aware that the APC did not win the election and that it has stolen,” party spokesperson Obiora Ifoh wrote in a statement Friday.

According to a statement released by the President's Senior Special Assistant for Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, he claimed that while the APC worked hard to retain power in the recent elections, the Combined Opposition was busy telling its foreign backers that they would defeat the APC.

We would like to make it clear to President Muhammadu Buhari that his position on the outcome of said election was wrong, false, and does not accurately reflect what happened during the election.

There are several reasons why opposition political parties lost the 2023 elections; the first is that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, snubbed the electoral act in which it failed to upload the result of the real-time voting unit as promised and in defiance of the laws governing the 'election. INEC, in doing so, created space for this election to be rigged.

Again, the current APC President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, did not win the election because the said election, especially the presidential election, was manipulated and rigged beyond any understanding. Thus, the political parties did not lose the elections due to overconfidence or complacency as the President said, APC in collaboration with the various government agencies simply rigged the elections and rigged in power.

Let me remind Mr. President of the extent of the violence, the suppressed votes, the snatching and the manipulation of the results of the collection centers using the security agencies, which included the police, the army, among others, as well as thugs to manipulate the elections in favor of power. party.
