The herbalist was reportedly at home with his wife and 14-year-old sister when he defiled the miner.

Angered by the development, the victim reported the incident to Jogbo's wife and mother.

The duo threatened to take up the matter with the herbalist and ordered him to leave the house.

During a visit to the mother-in-law's residence on Saturday, Jogbo's wife, while speaking with our correspondent, said that after ordering her husband to leave the house, he had followed his mother to church on Monday, November 14, 2022, and allegedly killed her.

She said: "We both moved in with my mum in March and have been living with her ever since. In October my mum visited one of my sisters who gave birth , and we were at home with my two younger sisters.

"On November 6, one of my sisters went to a wake, while the youngest stayed home with us. That same evening, my husband and I were out around 11 p.m. but since he was talking to someone, I left him and went in.

“Later, he came to sleep next to me. It was the next day that my younger sister told me that he had raped her at midnight. When I confronted him, he denied. I informed my mother and we became furious and asked her to leave the house.

"He packed up his belongings and left the next day to come back that week to start begging me." When my mother came back, she went straight to the church where she stayed until Sunday. On Sunday night he called me and told me that my mother had called him and showered him with curses. »

Jogbo's wife said her husband informed her that he was returning to Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, but was prowling the community to carry out the crime .

She said, "Around 3 a.m. someone from my mom's church called me to come to church because she wasn't feeling well. . As I was about to rush out, I heard footsteps and saw an iron bar on the floor.

"I was again called from the church to start going to Akodu General Hospital and that's how I learned that he (Jogbo) had killed my mother and he was about to come and kill me."

During a visit to the scene of the incident, church shepherd Durodola Agunloye, speaking to our correspondent, said he heard someone shouting his name as Jogbo was attacking his mother-in-law on the church premises around 2am.

Agunloye said, "I rushed outside, went straight into the church and saw her in a pool of blood. She couldn't speak when I called her name. , but she was just catching her breath. Immediately I alerted the president of our church, who came with his car which we used to transport her to the hospital where she was confirmed dead.

"We also contacted local vigilantes to mount surveillance in the community and Jogbo was caught trying to escape. When they brought him to the church, he denied murder.

"Around 7am, we saw the body of a young man a few meters from the church and discovered that it was Jogbo's friend, Shakiru. We learned that Shakiru saw him on the way to church and confronted him and as he knew Shakiru recognized him he attacked him with a stick and killed him Jogbo used the same stick to kill his mother-in-law."

Contacted, State Police Public Relations Officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident, said: "This is a new case and an investigation is ongoing. "
