Lagos Labor Party postpones primary for omission from delegate list

Lagos State Labor Party (LP) yesterday postponed its primary to elect the party's gubernatorial candidate to Wednesday due to an omission in the list of delegates.

Lagos State Party Secretary and Surrogate Governorate Primary Chairman Sam Emeka Okpara says the postponement has become imperative due to errors seen in the list of delegates from some local councils .

He said, "At the time of starting the exercise, one of the aspirants raised the fact that some delegates from some local government areas had been omitted.

“We promised all the candidates that the primary would be transparent, free and fair and that all the problems on the ground would be solved. One of the main complaints was that some of the names of the delegates had been omitted and we have says it might be a typographical error."

A gubernatorial candidate, Moshood Adegoke Salvador, who called for the primary to be postponed alleged that the list of delegates had been changed in favor of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

He said if he hadn't been vigilant to find that the list of delegates had been changed against him; the process would have been compromised against him. Salvador said he was optimistic he would get the party ticket if the primary was free and fair.

According to him, each of the aspirants was asked to submit 100 names of delegates, but to his surprise, 26 of the 100 delegates he submitted were not on the list.

He said: "I can say with confidence that the party is its own problem. We did our best. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour is like a cousin to me, his father even spoke to me this morning (yesterday ), I even promised 5 million naira on his election if he wins.

“The omission cannot be considered a mistake, it is deliberate. I no longer have faith in this electorate. We say we want a better Nigeria. "Keep telling them I'm known for my integrity. I'm known for fighting corruption. I've never taken a contract with local, state, or federal government in my life.

“The party would need to reorganize. The list of delegates may be tampered with and they are now saying they will correct it, therefore, we cannot trust this electorate any longer. The primary election should be cancelled. says Salvador.

In response, Rhodes-Vivor said there was an error in the list of delegates, adding that the party would take the necessary steps to correct it.

"Everyone has their list of delegates and they would be accredited. There are no problems here," he said. asked to withdraw for Salvador.
