The Last Night of the Proms and the Mercury Music Prize ceremony have been canceled following the announcement of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The traditional Proms season finale was due to take place at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday.

Organizers said the event was canceled as a mark of respect.

The Mercury Music Prize ceremony was to have Thursday but was postponed after nominees started arriving at the London site.

Artists like Sam Fender and Little Simz had already arrived and had been rehearsing for the show, which was to be screened on BBC Four, when news of the Queen's death broke.

"Our thoughts and condolences go to the Royal Family at this very difficult time," organizers said in a statement.

Other nominees for the prestigious Album of the Year award include Self-Esteem, Wet Leg, Harry Styles and Gwenno. An announcement of a future date will be made "as soon as we can", organizers added.
