The family of a 'lonely' artist were 'totally amazed' to discover he had secretly transformed his flat flat into a magical world of myth and legend after his death.

"Quirky" artist Ron Gittins, lived in Birkenhead on the peninsula of Wirral in his rented apartment from 33 years until his death in September 2019, at the age of 80.

His rental agreement allowed to "decorate the interior of the property to one's taste and the exterior porch in classic style without the prior written consent of the owner".

But Little did his family know that Ron had taken the words of the rental agreement at face value, transforming his home into an "ornate classic villa" based on the wonders of ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt.

Bi In that Ron was extremely proud of his works, he generally refused entry to owners, maintenance staff and any other officials in order to protect the imaginary world he had created for himself.
