Liverpool and Arsenal 'intend' to move to 'new Haaland' but face serious competition from Serie A

Liverpool and Arsenal are said to be among the clubs who 'intend' to sign 18-year-old Andreas Schjelderup, who has been dubbed 'the new Haaland'.

I mean, it was never going to take long before someone was called "the new Haaland", was it?

Arsenal best since Wenger peak, NLD findings & Klopp's seven-year itch

Rival clubs in England will curse the pesky points system that made Erling Haaland choose Man City.

But Liverpool and Arsenal are already looking for someone who could replicate Haaland's average start to life as a Premier League player.

Schjelderup is someone who CalcioMercatoWeb thinks could be up to the task, according to CalcioMercatoWeb.

To be honest, the teenager had a very promising debut as a professional footballer. Nordsjaelland signed him in 2020 and he made his league debut for them when he was just 16.

The striker has been a regular for the Danish side over the past few seasons. He has already played 49 times for them in the senior ranks.

Schjelderup was capped at U21 level for Denmark, but more importantly he found his goalscoring touch. So far this season he has scored five goals in ten appearances in the Danish Superliga.

CalcioMercatoWeb reports that "many clubs seem determined to come forward" in the next two months.

Liverpool and Arsenal are 'thinking' about signing him, while Juventus and Inter Milan are also in the running.

The report calls Schjelderup "the new Haaland" and it's also called a "jewel", so that's encouraging.

The player's contract is due to expire in 2024, so clubs will be able to get a good deal if he doesn't extend his contract before moving on.

Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund are also said to be interested in Schjelderup. "There is a queue for him" and it is said that "in June he can make the jump to a big European team".

Liverpool signing a striker like Schjelderup would be a good idea as most of their funds next summer are likely to go to a new midfielder.

The Reds are in the running to sign Jude Bellingham, but Real Madrid are also keen on signing.

The English club will inevitably be linked with alternatives in the coming months and Real Betis star Guido Rodriquez is already one of them.

Liverpool fans shouldn't get too excited as Fabrizio Romano thinks it's 'more speculation':

"Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez is the latest midfielder to be linked with Liverpool," Romano wrote for Caught Offside.

"As I said before, I think we can expect a lot of speculation like this, but I understand that this story is just speculation.

"At the moment I don't have any concrete confirmation on the talks between Liverpool and Guido Rodriguez - I think he is a very good player but they need a top player in midfield to bring new energy and quality.

"As I wrote last week, it is common knowledge that Liverpool want a best midfield signing in 2023, but we will have to wait a bit longer to find out for sure who they will bring in."
