Liverpool and Chelsea 'very keen' on EFL star with clubs told €35-40m needed to 'win a prize'

Liverpool and Chelsea are said to be 'very keen' on Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge and have been told how much he will cost.

Sheffield United invested around £22m to sign Berge from Belgian side Genk during the 2019/20 season when they were in the Premier League.

Berge missed much of his first full season at United through injury as they were relegated to the Championship.

Redknapp? Rogers? What England need is another Gareth Southgate

But the midfielder has shown what he is capable of for the Blades over the past year. He has scored eight goals and six assists in 41 league appearances.

He was linked with several clubs this summer as he was due to leave Sheffield United.

Liverpool expressed their 'interest' in him last month, and Chelsea have also inquired about him.

Club Brugge were also keen on signing him and Berge has since come out and explained how he dealt with being in limbo this summer:

"It was weird. I've stayed in hotels all summer. It was a little awkward lying in there with three or four half-open suitcases," Berge said.

"I moved between seasons and stayed in hotels for the past few weeks. I sat there and didn't really know what was going on. There was back and forth.

On deadline day, he added, "I sat there and didn't do much. You get carried away, but it's not me sitting on the phone or talk to others.

"I'm sitting there watching a series or getting ready for the next day of training. Personally, there's not much going on other than an away game where I'm sitting.

"There was a lot of interest, concrete interest, you weighed things up a bit, it had to work for both the club and for me, and it didn't happen.

"It's always nice to sit in a position and know that there were clubs that were very interested."

He continued, "It was a process all summer. But my ambition was always to play at the highest level.

"Even though they showed a lot of confidence and continued all summer, I always said that I was there (in Belgium) and that I was interested in playing at the highest level. was the priority for me."

Jeunes Footeux (via Sport Witness) report that Liverpool and Chelsea are currently "very attentive" to how Berge is doing for Sheffield United.

Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona are also reportedly interested in the Norway international.

It is stated that it “would not be a surprise” if Sheffield United received offers for their prized asset in January.

The report adds that "an offer of €35-40m" would be needed if clubs are to "win the price" of securing Berge's services.
