LP screens aspirants from Kogi, Bayelsa and Imo gov

The Labor Party leadership led by Lamidi Apapa announced on Tuesday that it had started screening candidates for the gubernatorial elections of Imo, Bayelsa and Kogi states.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had set November 11 as the date for the three gubernatorial elections.

Among the candidates shortlisted on Monday were Udengs Eradivi, Chief Ikechuwku Ukaegbu, Ihechi Ike, Senator Nneji Achonu, Chief Diekivie Ihiogla; Abu Enemona, Donald Daunemigha, Ari Marshel Isaac Aifia, from Kogi state among others.

Speaking briefly to reporters before the start of the selection on Tuesday in Abuja, the party's acting chairman, Apapa, said the total number of candidates to be shortlisted in the three states was 24 .

He said, "Right now, we've selected four gubernatorial contenders. We've screened two from Bayelsa and two from Imo State. So far, they've all made their best and they convinced us and the committee selected them and they are qualified to present themselves in the primaries which will take place on April 16.

"We are expecting 13 aspirants from Imo State and we are also expecting nine aspirants from Bayelsa and we are also expecting two from Kogi State. There are 24 in all."
