Men from the Ogun State Police Command arrested a 49-year-old man, Ganiyu Shina, for allegedly bathing in blood in a community river in Kotopo, Odeda local government area of ​​the state.

The suspect was reportedly arrested at 4 Oguji Street, Obantoko, Abeokuta on Thursday.

State Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed in a statement on Thursday.

Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested when community members spotted him by the river where he parked his Nissan utility vehicle, came out with a local sponge and a container filled with blood and started bathing in it. .

He said: "Immediately he discovered that some people were watching him, he fled, but was chased and apprehended by members of the community.

"A call was made to the police at Aregbe Division Headquarters by a member of the community, and the DPO, SP Bunmi Asogbon, quickly led a patrol team to the places, from where the suspect was brought to the station.

"During interrogation, the suspect claimed to have a spiritual problem and that an herbalist had asked him to perform the ritual.

"He further asserted that the blood in his possession was not human blood, but that of a cow."

Oyeyemi, however, said state police commissioner Lanre Bankole ordered the remaining blood to be taken for laboratory analysis to determine whether he was human or not.
