United hope to tie David De Gea to a new contract, with the Spain international set to take a £375,000-a-week wage cut.
But the Red Devils also have the idea of recruiting a new shooter, whatever happens to the veteran.
Although Henderson will remain a United player, he is unlikely to return as a No1. He will no longer play second fiddle to De Gea, which means a departure is on the cards.
Ten Hag's side have been credited with an interest in Yann Sommer, who impressed for Switzerland at the World Cup.
And Diogo Costa has also been linked, although his uncertain results for Portugal could end up hampering his transfer prospects.
