Man Utd star backs €75m transfer plan and reveals another club he would love to play for

Man Utd defender Diogo Dalot has given his approval to the Red Devils transfer plans to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

Dalot and his Man Utd team-mate David de Gea are out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season and it remains to be seen if the Red Devils hierarchy will officially offer them new terms.

Man Utd have the option of extending both players' contracts for a further year and reports suggest Dalot will be offered new terms.

There have been further reports that Man Utd goalkeeper De Gea is ready to take a pay cut to secure his future at the club, with the Red Devils looking for other goalscorers.

One such goalkeeper is Costa with a report in The Athletic last month claiming the Porto man is "watched" regularly by Man Utd.

Costa recently signed a new deal with a €75m release clause, but Portuguese publication A Bola (via Sport Witness) insists on the fact that the fee did not put the Premier League on the off side.

On Costa, Man Utd right-back Dalot told RTP: "Diogo Costa is already one of the best in the world. He will be a benchmark, if not the benchmark, all over the world.”

Dalot came through the Porto youth ranks and played for the first team nine times in the 2017-18 season before joining Man Utd for £19million in June 2018.

And Dalot admits that he would like to return to Porto one day, he said: "Would I like to return to FC Porto? Yes, it is a cycle that is not closed. If everything is puts in place, one day I will return to FC Porto.”

On his season at Man Utd so far, Dalot continued: "I've started the season well and got plenty of playing time. I want to show that I have the ability to stay at this level. , I want to be even better."

It's clear Dalot is much happier now at Man Utd, having been loaned out to AC Milan in the 2020-21 season, and the Portugal international reveals he now feels 'extra responsibility' alongside Ten Hag.

"Being a starter in every game with Ten Hag makes me proud," Dalot said in an interview with The Times.

"I see it as an additional responsibility. It shows that the coach has faith in me, I want to reciprocate and be a reliable and important player for the team. That's what I'm fighting for for years.

"After a good pre-season, but a bad start of two games, you had to get off the hook and realize that it was a long season, a different season with a World Cup. We still have to improve as that team, in terms of the connection between the coach and the players, the connection between the players and the fans - which I think is happening."
