Pro basketball player Jimmy Butler has asked to be dismissed from a class action lawsuit targeting celebrities involved in Binance's alleged promotion of unregistered securities, claiming that the tweets he appeared in did not promote the titles named .

In a July 24 filing, Butler's attorneys argued that three tweets he posted promoting Binance between February 2 and February 13, 2022 did not mention allegedly unregistered securities and therefore would not have could help promote them.

They claimed that Butler's tweets did not recommend any investments and instead warned against celebrity crypto endorsements, urging potential Binance customers to do their own research on crypto investments.

Butler was named in the March class action alongside Binance, its CEO, Changpeng "CZ" Zhao, and YouTubers Graham Stephan and Ben Armstrong, known as BitBoy Crypto.

Binance hired Butler - a star player for the National Basketball Association's Miami Heat - in 2022 to promote the trade for this year's Super Bowl.

He first appeared in a video promoting a free non-fungible token (NFT) collection from Binance on February 2, 2022. Butler then tweeted two more videos that month, the 7 and February 13.
