Ministerial list: Blame S East APC leaders not Tinubu, says chief

A leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Osita Okechukwu, has absolved President Bola Tinubu of blame in the appointment of only five people from the South East as members of his cabinet.< /p>

Critics had followed Tinubu's ministerial list, with some Southeast leaders accusing him of marginalizing the area. While the South East secured its five statutory spots out of the 48 nominees, other areas secured additional spots.

But answering questions from reporters in Enugu yesterday, APC founding member Okechukwu said APC leaders in the Southeast should be blamed for the development.

According to Okechukwu, who is the Managing Director of Voice of Nigeria (VON): "I am no apologist for President Tinubu. However, we must be diligent in adopting a pragmatic analysis.

"We should blame the APC leaders in the area who, instead of genuinely promoting the interests of the Southeast, have been more or less mean-spirited in their lobbying strategy. After all, one chairs the APC Governors Forum, a leading ruling bloc, and the other was already in the Senate.

"To be honest, I was worried when I noticed they were blocking our first eleven, and one was ridiculously busy doing the routing for himself like he was the only person qualified to his state. Their strategy was akin to chasing the rats, while others were bidding on the elephants."

Accused of playing blame games to curry favor because Tinubudos need no lobbying strategy to give the region its due, Okechukwu reminded reporters that he was registered that he was the only one who, in December 2021, had publicly appealed to Tinubu “to support an Igbo in the race. According to him, his men responded instantly that the "kingmaker wants to be king".
