MSGM Men Fall 2023

Massimo Giorgetti took the fashion crowd to school on Saturday.

As the academic dean of the imaginary MSGM Dreamers University, he summoned guests to the building Politecnico architecture brutalist faculty in Milan with a letter setting out some ground rules that could give Ivy League schools a run for their money. Early outings can be justified for exceptional reasons, essentially romantic ones; parties are highly recommended and support for campus sports teams is encouraged with tongue-in-cheek gadgets. Who wouldn't sign up?

Once the show kicked off, Giorgetti's fashion program also began. This included a masterclass on preppy aesthetics; casual tailoring 101; management of sports references, and tutoring on streetstyle.

The retro appeal of varsity jackets, v-neck vests and striped cardigans has been widely explored and revisited to pair with baggy cargo pants and fleece joggers. Tailoring was loose and cool, as seen in striped or micro-check suits with a no-fuss vibe or slim blazer jackets worn with sporty shorts. A candy pink coat worn over a mismatched suit made for a statement piece, but a series of knitwear, tweed pieces and even trainers shone just as bright with their Lurex yarns and shimmering glory.

Heraldic symbols and coats of arms were scattered profusely, while sporting inflections were visible through monochrome tracksuits, rugby shirts and quarterback jerseys covered in fictitious signatures of varsity team stars. Towards the end of the show, an MSGM mascot illustration appeared on a puffer jacket and a mohair sweater.

Berets, loose regimental ties hanging from the neck and baseball caps hanging from belt loops add to the rebellious spirit of Giorgetti's students.

The designer imagined a school that celebrates creativity, freedom of expression and that "recognizes the happiness as a social, cultural and artistic responsibility.”

The intriguing blend of insubordination and romance (voiced by the soundtrack of Italian punk rock band the 80s CCCP) added to the charm of the collection, which was an ode to "a generation that faces the world with the desire to make a difference", he said.

Once again Giorgetti proved to be a staunch supporter of youth - and it is the best thing a Dean can possibly be.
