"Several" new Lord of the Rings films in the works

Warner Bros has confirmed that more Lord of the Rings films are on the way over the next few years.

The original films, which starred included Sir Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom, have cost an estimated £2.5 billion ($3 billion) at the box office.

They also won several Oscars, with The Return of the King in 2004 which won Best Picture and Best Director for Peter Jackson.

The news was announced by Warner Bros. Chief Executive David Zaslav.

Fans of the film franchise enjoyed more Lord of the Rings content in 2022, when the TV series The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power was released. Streamed on Amazon.< /p>

It cost around £800 million to create and track life on Middle-earth thousands of years before the books and the films are made.

Work on the second series began in October last year.
