Britain is going to get its own savannah - a wildflower meadow 70 miles from North Devon.

As we can associate 'savannah' with the majestic plains of the Serengeti, the National Trust says Britain's grasslands are no less awe-inspiring.

But Britain has lost about 99% of its wild grasslands and the wildflowers that grew there, resulting in "the draining of color from campaign".

The new plan, which is to be completed by 2030, is an attempt to help stop the loss of wild plants such as Eyebrights, Primroses and Bugloss Viper and helping the bees and rare birds that depend on them.

It is hoped that the revival of its "species-rich grasslands" - defined as having 15 species of plants per square meter - will help wildlife, including voles, kestrels and bats to thrive.
