NDLEA arrests Brazilian returnee with 105 packages of cocaine in candy on Christmas Day
The National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted a Brazilian returnee, Agbasi Prosper Chux, with 105 packages of cocaine concealed in candy at Lagos International Airport on Christmas Day.
The suspect, according to an NDLEA statement on Sunday, was arrested in the airport's arrival hall 'D' while clearing passengers from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Doha on Qatar Airways on December 26, 2022, as a result of credible information.
An initial search of the suspect's two registered bags nearly set him free as nothing incriminating was found there until NDLEA officers took a second look at the bags duty-free shopping nylon bag containing packets of "candy" he was holding in his hands.
A close examination of the duty-free shopping bags revealed that the candy packets inside had been used to conceal 105 packets of cocaine weighing 2.8 kg and 43 grams of cannabis.
A preliminary test performed on a plastic bottle of body lotion also found in the suspect's possession tested positive for cocaine with a total weight of 472 grams. Married to a Brazilian with a daughter, Prosper, who claimed to be in the clothing business in Brazil, hoped to sell drugs in Enugu, his state.
Meanwhile, three other traffickers have been arrested by Agency officers with a total of 256 kilograms of illicit substances seized during interdiction operations in Kwara, Kogi and Niger states last week.< /p>
While a team of NDLEA officers on a stop and search mission along the Ilorin-Jebba highway on Monday, December 26, arrested a suspect, Idris Saeed with 60 blocks of compressed cannabis Sativa weighing 30 kg, their colleagues in Niger State in a similar operation along the Jebba-Mokwa road also recovered 240 blocks of the same substance weighing 168 kilograms, from multicolored bags loaded onto a Peugeot J5 bus , registered MAG 146 XA, coming from Lagos and going to Kano for delivery.
In Kogi State, NDLEA Spokesperson Femi Babafemi said, NDLEA officers intercepted a truck traveling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Maiduguri, Borno, along the Okene-Abuja highway, where 9,900 pentazocine injection vials (42 kg) were collected on Saturday. December 24.
Similarly, a suspect, Ibrahim Jibril was arrested on the same journey with 40 blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 16kgs coming from Lagos to Jigawa in a Toyota Hiace commercial bus on Tuesday, December 27.
