Nigerian Army Pays Tribute to Valiant Soldiers Fighting Boko Haram

The Acting Sector III Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole and the Combined Joint Task Force, Abdulsalam Abubakar, on Saturday decorated officers and soldiers for their gallantry in the fight against the insurgency.

Speaking at the medal parade in Monguno, Mr. Abubakar, a Brigadier General, said it is customary for the army to honor deserving officers and soldiers who have distinguished themselves.

Mr. Abubakar urged them to continue to do more in their commitment to serve the nation, adding that the medal ceremony was symbolic as it coincided with the 62nd anniversary of the nation's independence.

While reminding the troops of the myriad security challenges plaguing the nation with its consequent economic realities, he instructed all troops to remain steadfast, resilient and professional in overcoming all glaring challenges.

The commander expressed his gratitude to the Chief of the Defense Staff, Leo Irabor, and the Chief of the Army Staff, Faruk Yahaya, for their continued support to the troops who, according to him, remains a motivating factor.

He also thanked the Theater Commander, Operation Hadin Kai Northeast and the Combined Joint Task Force Commander for their strategic guidance and leadership that led to success in countering the insurgency.< /p>

Mr. Abubakar, who reiterated the loyalty of the troops to the President and Commander-in-Chief, said the administration has maintained the supply of necessary logistics and equipment to the army for its operations.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman of Monguno Local Government, Ahmed Kyari, commended the military for securing and maintaining peace in the Monguno area.

Mr. Kyari, represented by the Vice President, Sanda Amodu, said the return of peace to Monguno and surrounding areas has provided the enabling environment that has led to the resettlement of communities previously displaced by the insurgency.
