Nigerian judiciary is not corrupt - NBA President Yakubu Maikyau

Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), the President of the Bar Association of Nigeria (NBA), has steered the Nigerian judiciary away from any perception of corruption.

Speaking this weekend in Abuja at the reception in his honor by the Nigeria Law School Class of 1990, the NBA President urged lawyers to disabuse any negative perceptions to enable the country and the world to get the real situation of Nigerian justice.

Maikyau noted that lawyers have an important role to play in building a society where justice prevails in order to enjoy their professional calling.

He explained, "Let's speak loudly so that the country and beyond will know that we are not a people called to this profession that can be compromised. I will give you an example, Your Excellency, Justice Amina Augie does doesn't have a personal car; she never bought a car for herself, I know that.”

Maikyau also explained that Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, who was also the special guest of honour, is a man whose background has no trace of corruption.

CJN Ariwoola, while speaking at the ceremony, hailed the election that produced Maikyau as NBA President and charged him to work hard to produce many of Nigeria's top lawyers ( SAN) and judges during his tenure.
