Nigerians are the 95th happiest people in the world – Report

The World Happiness Report, a publication of Sustainable Development Solutions, states that Nigerians are the 95th happiest people in the world.

The report shows that Nigeria has moved up 23 places in the global happiness rankings.

According to the report, released each year on the International Day of Happiness, designated by the United Nations and observed on March 20, Nigeria now ranks 95th out of 137 countries surveyed.

Data shows that Nigeria ranks below Guinea, Ukraine, Ivory Coast and Gabon and above Cameroon, Mozambique, Iraq, Palestine and of Morocco.

Powered by data from the Gallup World Poll, the report shows that for the sixth time in a row, Finland is the country with the happiest people.

The other countries with the happiest minors in order are Denmark, Iceland, Israel, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Luxembourg and New Zealand.

Countries with a minor ranking are Malawi, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Lebanon and Afghanistan.

The report says the way to measure a nation's happiness is to ask a nationally representative sample of people how satisfied they are with their lives.

According to the report, a population will only experience high levels of overall life satisfaction if its inhabitants are also pro-social, healthy and prosperous.

"In other words, its people must have high levels of what Aristotle called 'eudaimonia'. So, at a societal level, life satisfaction and eudaimonia go hand in hand.

"At the individual level, however, they may diverge. As evidence shows, virtuous behavior generally raises the happening of the virtuous actor (as well as the beneficiary). But there are a significant number of virtuous people, including some caregivers, who are dissatisfied with their lives,” the report says.

Happiness at the bottom

Despite the measured improvement in rankings, it is believed that there is still room for improvement.

Only two decades ago, Nigeria was ranked as the country with the happiest people.

In 2003, the World Values ​​Survey revealed that the happiest people in the world lived in Nigeria.

The three-year study was significant because the happiness of the Nigerian people was to claim the top spot.
