Nigerians in Europe: Chukwueze scores first goal of new season

It was a productive night for Super Eagles and Villarreal striker Samuel Chukwueze, who was on target in his club's seven-goal thriller against Lech Poznan in the Europa Conference League kick-off at the Estadio La Ceramica on Thursday evening.

It was the first Nigerian goal in five games played in all competitions this season. But it was a tough challenge for the Yellow Submarine as they had to come back from an early setback to beat their opponents 4-3.

The Nigerian player scored and assisted in his 80 minutes of action for the Yellow Submarines. Chukwueze equalized for the Spanish side in the 32nd minute after Michal Sokra put the visitors ahead in less than two minutes.

The visitors closed for a second, but Nikoloz Kvekveskiri's free-kick from 40 yards was missed by whiskers. Meanwhile, Villarreal also lost two headed chances from Alex Baena and Aissa Mandi.

In the 35th minute, the Poznan defense blocked Chukwueze's assist for Baena, but a minute later the Yellow Submarine doubled the lead thanks to a Baena shot from outside the surface.

Villarreal led 3-1 in the 40th minute when Chukwueze assisted Baena for his brace.

Villarreal conceded the second goal from the penalty spot after Mandi's handball, and Mikael Ishak converted the kick in the 46th minute.

Ishak then equalized for the visitors in the 61st minute thanks to an assist from Skora, but the Yellow Submarines eventually won the goal thanks to Francis Coquelin's 89th-minute strike.
