Nigerians should be more concerned about PDP's decision to get rid of zoning than Muslim-Muslim ticket – Ex-APC Spokesperson

A former deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena, said opponents of the Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket should consider mainstream loyalists if fairness is the motive for the unrest.

Mr. Nabena, in a statement on Tuesday, said Nigerians should be more concerned about why the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has killed equity and the conventional rotation of power between the North and the South, not a Muslim-Muslim ruling party ticket.

The choice of Kashim Shettima, a senator and former governor of Borno State, as Bola Tinubu's running mate has continued to spark reactions across the country.

While some condemned him for his alleged callousness, others hailed the decision.

Speaking on the Muslim/Muslim ticket, Mr. Nabena pointed out that the same religious governors and deputies in south-south states have failed to ensure good governance.

He noted that Nigeria has produced the same religious leadership in the past and the sky has not fallen.

"None of those who campaign against the Muslim-Muslim ticket on the basis of equity have considered the traditional African faithful. How right is it that we campaign for justice and equity in order to to share power between Christians and Muslims while completely ignoring and alienating our traditional African followers, where is the justice?

"Nigeria should be more worried about the zoning scheme which the PDP just killed for its selfish interest and the desperation of its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar because for Atiku it is the last chance that will become a chance for him by 2023." Nabena said.

He praised the ruling party for zoning the presidency to the south.

"The APC has done the right thing by zoning the Presidency in the South. Nigerians need to know that religion is a matter of individual race, the most important thing is that the Presidency is in the South versus to the unjust treatment of the DPP towards the South."

“The PDP has zoned the presidency to the North while the incumbent is from the North, a Muslim and Fulani man, just like Atiku. This actually calls for anger and not the APC harmless Muslim-Muslim ticket,” Nabena added.
