NSF: Kaduna athletes attacked in Asaba

Some athletes representing Kaduna State at the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival in Asaba were attacked on their way to their hostel from Stephen Keshi Stadium.

Our correspondent learned from an athlete from Kaduna who spoke on condition of anonymity that this happened on Tuesday morning around 3 a.m. in the Itsele-uku district near the hostel.

It was learned that the athletes did not leave the stadium until 1am that morning because the bus that was supposed to take them to their hostels was late. This is in addition to complaints from other athletes regarding the transportation provided to athletes at the 2022 Delta Festival.

The bus carrying the athletes to their accommodation from the stadium was shot down by the attackers but they escaped without causing any casualties as the attackers fled when they discovered the presence of security guards with the athletes.

The issue of the distance between the hostels and the stadium had been raised by the athletes camping at the Old NYSC camp in Itsele-uku, with some athletes like the Lagos taekwondo athletes booking hotels for themselves.
