NSF: Rivers, Lagos, Ondo and more advance to table tennis round of 16

Teams Rivers, Lagos, Ondo, Cross River, Kwara, Oyo qualified for the round of 16 of the table tennis team event at the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival in Asaba on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the men's and women's table tennis categories were contested at the indoor sports hall at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

At the start of the day's game, the Lagos women's team marched on Plateau while Oyo also marched on the Adamawa team.

Still in the women's team event, Cross River, powered by duo Vivian Oku and Hope Udoka, defeated duo Khadijat Lawal and Taiwo Ayobami 3-0, 11-6, 11-9 and 11-3. < /p>

Other preliminary results of the women's team event are: Kwara 3-0 Oyo, Rivers 3-0 Anambra, Ondo 3-2 Nasarawa and Lagos 3-0 Imo.

In the men's team event, Ondo edged Abia 3-0, Oyo 3-0 Katsina, Ogun 3-0 Bayelsa, Rivers 3-0 Kogi.

The duo of Oku and Udoka, who spoke to NAN, expressed their confidence to qualify for the final of the women's team event.

Udoka said she started the festival in a panic because she didn't rest well after traveling for several hours by road to Asaba.

"I'm so excited to win because I had a shaky start as I was already tired after the long trip to Asaba.

"I'm glad I got back to my game and won as the game went on," she said.

Olu, however, said she didn't expect a tough challenge from the Osun players, adding that she was happy the win had come.
