Ogun police arrest four suspected kidnappers and recover weapons

Ogun State Police have arrested four suspected members of a notorious kidnapping gang operating in and around Abeokuta, the state capital.

State police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested following reports of a spate of kidnappings in Soyooye and surrounding areas. 'Ibara Orile in Abeokuta.

It will be recalled that the state has recorded many cases of kidnappings in recent times.

Mr. Oyeyemi named the suspects Ismaila Ibrahim (21), Musa Muhammed (26), Irekura Abu (43) and Okanlawon Muhammed (26).

He said that following reports of incessant kidnappings, State Police Commissioner Lanre Bankole ordered the anti-kidnapping team to go to the affected areas to fish out the perpetrators.

"As directed by the CP, the team led by SP Taiwo Opadiran embarked on a technical and intelligence-based investigation, which led them to one of the suspects, Irukura Abu, who was later discovered to be the supplier of firearms to the thugs."

Mr. Oyeyemi said the arrest of Mr. Abu led to the arrest of Musa Muhammed, as he came out of their hiding place to buy food for their victims and the gang members.

He added that the duo "confessed to being members of a kidnapping gang responsible for the kidnapping of a Bishop Oladimeji Joshua of Prayer City, Keesan Abeokuta, on September 22, 2022.

"Their confessions led to the arrest of the other two, Ismaila Ibrahim and Okanlawon Muhammed."

According to Mr. Oyeyemi, two double-barreled firearms and a single-barreled long gun were recovered from the suspects.

He said the police chief, Mr. Bankole, had ordered that the suspects be brought to justice as soon as the investigation was completed.

Mr. Oyeyemi said the police chief also led a massive manhunt for other gang members who were on the run.
