Olopoeyan leads NNPP candidate guber, others to Oyo

New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) South West leader Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan and the party's gubernatorial candidate Joshua Popoola stormed the federal constituency of Oyo to prepare the electorate before the 2023 elections.

The NNPP leader, who led other party leaders to Oyo on Thursday, was received by a crowd of NNPP members and supporters at the Atiba Multipurpose Hall where they reaffirmed their commitment to make Governor Seyi Makinde do not return in 2023.

Speaking at the event, the party's gubernatorial candidate, Popoola, urged party members to be firm and never face intimidation from the party in power.

Popoola, who retired as a senior engineer with the Federal Highways Maintenance Agency, said preparations were in high gear to ensure all party members are protected and rewarded before, during and after elections.

He assured them that the NNPP would take over state government from 2023, adding that he would defeat Governor Makinde in a free and fair contest.

"We are here to make sure we are on the same page. Don't be intimidated. I can assure you that everyone will be protected and rewarded accordingly. We are not like those who promises and break their promises. We are Omoluabi with track records. We will not let you down,” Popoola said.

Previously, South West leader Alhaji Olopoeyan instructed the police to ensure that criminals who destroy billboards are caught and prosecuted.

Olopoeyan, apparently reacting to the destruction of opposition party billboards and posters, said he was unhappy with the ruling party's political style in the State.

According to him, by destroying opposition billboards, the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) accepted defeat.

He said that about 30 billboards belonging to the NNPP, which cost at least 350,000 naira each, had been destroyed by political thugs, reminding them that the destruction of the billboards would not prevent people to vote for NNPP candidates.

He advised Governor Makinde to be tolerant of opposition members and accused the state police commissioner of not allowing the chairman of the park management system, Mukaila Lamidi, commonly known as an auxiliary, to turn the state into a war zone.
