On the spot: Kane says England have unfinished business and are ready to go again

January 6 - England captain Harry Kane admitted he would always be haunted by his crucial missed World Cup penalty against France, but was determined to move on and put it behind him.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker had a chance to equalize with six minutes remaining, but France held on to win 2-1 in the quarter-finals in Qatar last month.

Despite mockery from opposition fans, Kane has scored three league goals since the World Cup, including a brace against Crystal Palace on Wednesday, proving his mental toughness and resilience.

He told the Evening Standard newspaper that the penalty miss will always stay with him but he will not let it have a negative impact on the rest of his career.

"After [the missed penalty] happened, I just wanted to play again as quickly as possible and get that out of my head. It's something you have to deal with," Kane said.

"I'll probably remember it all my life, but it's part of the game. It was a tough time for me. It's never easy to live with, but it's part of football. It's not going to m 'assign as a player or as a person."

“I had some time afterwards, just to reflect, and it made me want to come back and succeed even more.“

Kane is delighted that Gareth Southgate has chosen to continue as England manager

‘I’m really glad [he’s staying]. I feel like there is unfinished business and he's a fantastic coach."

“We have been close now a few times. We seemed strong in the tournament and it was little things that ended up not working for us. It will be good to have another try at the Euros with the same team and the same staff. Business picks up in March and we'll be ready."
