Ondo Amotekun will bear arms soon, Akeredolu tells FG

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State said on Wednesday that his government was set to acquire weapons to protect the people of the state under the doctrine of the necessity of fulfilling its legal duty , constitutional and moral towards the citizens of the State.

This is exactly when the Governor of Ondo State condemned the Federal Government for granting permission to bear arms to the Katsina State Security Team, although he denied this ability to the state security team across the country to carry sophisticated weapons to protect the people.

Akeredolu, while condemning the endorsement, in a statement personally signed by him, said the development is an indication that the federal government is pursuing a country, two-system solution to the national question, saying what is the sauce for the goose, is the sauce for the gander.

He asked that if the Katsina security team is allowed to carry or carry weapons to protect its people, why shouldn't the Amotekun in the South West region be allowed to carry weapons? sophisticated to protect the people like their counterparts in Katsina state.

"The video making the rounds showing the equivalent of the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun Corps) in Katsina gaining federal government approval to bear arms is fraught with difficulty.

“To deny Amotekun the rights he urgently needs, to legitimately bear arms, is to deny the basis of the true federalism we demand.

"The fact that Katsina was able to arm its state security force, with the display of AK47s means that we are looking for a one country, two systems solution to the national question."

Akeredolu added that "if the katsina situation confers advantages to some, in the face of common existential threats, it means that our failed unitary policing system is a deliberate method of subjugation that must be challenged." /p>

“The independence agreement was based on a democratic arrangement to have a federal state and decentralized internal security mechanisms. We must return to this agreement.

“Denying Amotekun the right to bear arms exposes the Southwest to potentially deadly marauders and organized crime. It is also a deliberate destruction of our agricultural sector. It's an existential threat.

"We want to reiterate that what is gravy for the goose, is gravy for the gander. The Ondo State Government, under the doctrine of necessity, has decided to fulfill its duty legal, constitutional and moral towards the citizens of the state, acquiring weapons to protect them.

"This is all the more true since bandits have unlimited access to sophisticated weapons.

"The state government cannot watch while its citizens are terrorized and murdered with impunity. We will defend our people"
