Ondo: FG and IFAD train farmers in agricultural production

The federal government, in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development and a non-governmental organization, the Niger Delta Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises, has this year trained no less than 1 180 farmers in Ondo State.

It was concluded that the project, tagged, IFAD/LIFE-ND was designed to support Nigeria's agricultural policy and strategic framework for youth empowerment and job creation.

Speaking at a media roundtable held in Akure, the state capital, on Friday, Ondo State Coordinator of the IFAD/LIFE-ND Project, Mr. Adewale Ademola, said the project took place in 10 local governments. regions of the state of which young people and women are the beneficiaries.

Represented by the Project State Rural Institution Unit and Gender Officer, Mrs. Bola Ajibade, the State Coordinator also said that the beneficiaries were young people and women from rural areas of the 10 local governments.

According to him, the local governments where the project took place include; Local Government Areas of Owo, Akoko South West, Akoko North West, Akure North and Idanre.

The others are the local government areas of Ondo East, Irele, Ilaje, Ese-Odo and Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo. He said that each of the council areas had 10 communities where the project took place.

According to him, the 920 beneficiary farmers have duly fulfilled their legal agreement between themselves and the project.

He said, "We have trained and empowered 260 youths and women on agricultural products such as livestock, aquaculture and crop productions.

“Currently, 920 beneficiaries have registered for the project and been trained. Very soon they will leave the IFAD center to be empowered by the project.

“So if you add the previous 260 beneficiaries to the 920 new beneficiaries, it shows that a total of 1,180 young people and women who have benefited from the IFAD/LIFE-ND project in Ondo declare this year .

"This is the major achievement that we have recorded regarding the employment of beneficiaries in Ondo State in 2022. Thus, IFAD/LIFE-ND does not concern not just empowering youth, but also improving food security in society, increasing income generation and diversifying the economy, among others.”

Ademola noted that some of the empowered incubees (also known as interns) had started their own businesses and become successful entrepreneurs, but he noted that the in-state project team was still performing follow-up visits to their project. website.
