Oppenheimer stifled petition by atomic scientists pleading with US government not to drop bomb – report

J. Robert Oppenheimer, the former director of the Los Alamos lab where the first atomic bomb was designed, has suppressed a petition from fellow scientists demanding that the bomb not be dropped on Japan.

The Oppenheimer biopic hits theaters this weekend.

Business Insider that Oppenheimer persuaded Edward Teller, one of the Manhattan Project scientists, not to not send the petition. "Oppenheimer talked me out of it, saying that as scientists we don't have to get involved in political pressures like that," Teller said.
