Osun Assembly exonerates OSSCE Bursar Ila Orangun from alleged financial embezzlement

The financial embezzlement allegation made against Bursar of Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, Mr. Rasheed Olarewaju Oyedeji by State Auditor General, Mr. Folorunsho Adesina was buried on Thursday when the state house of assembly exonerated and cleared his name from the mess.

The Board of Directors had previously cleared the steward of the allegation through a memo referenced GP/OSCE/6/Vol 111/16 dated April 5, 2022 after the Accountant General asked the Board of the institution to investigate the matter.

The board, in its conclusion after engaging the services of forensic auditors, insisted that the bursar had no skeletons in his closet regarding the allegation.

In its submission, the Board called on the Office of the Auditor General to "be careful not to disclose unnecessary information until it has been able to explore issues to a sustainable stage, for the office of the Auditor General needs a total overhaul to avoid giving the state government any unnecessary embarrassment."

Furthermore, the Auditor General must be aware that he is a public servant and should not arrogate powers or arrogate his functions to the detriment of the state.

However, the Osun State Assembly on Thursday, July 28, 2022, during its plenary session, also exonerated the bursar of the alleged financial misappropriation.

In the report presented by the Chairman of the House Public Accounts Committee, the Honorable Abidemi Gbenga Ogunkanmi and signed by other members of the Committee, the House recommended that "the Office of the Auditor General of the 'State remains professional in discharging its duties within the college and all auditing activities must be devoid of personal or overriding feelings.'

The state House of Assembly decided that the office of the state auditor general should work on other state institutions and report to the House Public Accounts Committee.
