Osun LG votes a waste of state resources – PDP

The Osun State People's Democratic Party called the recently concluded Osun local government poll unnecessary and a deliberate waste of state resources.

The party, which made the description in a statement signed by Adekunle Akindele, the acting PDP chairman of Osun in Osogbo on Saturday, added that the alleged failure of the drill was vindication of its position that the illegality would have no place in the state.

While noting that the exercise was a sham set up by the outgoing All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, the party urged state governor Adegboyega Oyetola to ensure that every penny spent in the failed exercise returns to the state coffers.< /p>

“Right from the start, the process was flawed and our efforts to make it clear to Oyetola that it was not appreciated. of the APC is what greeted all who visited them.

“The ballot papers allegedly used do not specify political parties or name the local government for which they were intended. This explains the curiosity of residents and observers of Osun, who wondered if it was an election or a referendum organized by the Oyetola administration.

“The summary of what happened today is that the people of Osun do not accept the travesty disguised as an election, and as a party we are proud of their courage and determination to reject a dangerous precedent that posed a grave danger to our state.< /p>

“It is imperative to point out that in addition to the fact that the alleged election was conducted in violation of known democratic principles, the ongoing litigation challenging the validity of the NOTICE and the processes of the election, what the 'APC and OSIEC did everything in their effort to thwart his hasty resolve, enough to throw the whole exercise in the trash.

“The President of OSIEC should therefore note that he has prepared a solid ground for serious misconduct for himself and his members, and will therefore be publicly considered and will remain forever in the history as the greatest fraud that has ever happened to democracy not only in Osun State but in Nigeria as a whole.”

Meanwhile, Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola in his assessment of the exercise described the entire election process as peaceful, orderly and without hard feelings.

He added that this indicated that the country's democracy was flourishing and progressing steadily.

While expressing his optimism about the political future of Nigeria, Oyetola hailed the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) for its determination and commitment to having a free, fair, transparent electoral process , credible and acceptable.

“Thank God the process was very peaceful, orderly and without hard feelings. My wife and I just voted for the candidates of our choice and I believe that is exactly what is happening in virtually every office state vote.

“Local government elections are very important. Local government is the heart of contact in government, so it is important for all of us to exercise our civic responsibility by voting for the candidates of our choice,” said he said.

In the meantime, OSIEC gave the reasons why it chose to put YES or NO on the ballot for the Osun LG ballot.

According to OSIEC President Segun Oladitan, the Commission opted for the procedure because only the APC has candidates for councilor and presidential positions in the state local elections.

Oladitan said other political parties that had expressed an interest in the election had not submitted candidates by the final day of the nomination.

He also revealed that the election was only for the position of President, revealing that the candidates for Councilor were declared elected without opposition after the close of nominations.

“At the close of nominations, councilors were declared elected unopposed. But since the office of president requires other tests, a section of the electoral law requires that there be a yes or no vote.

“Because there were many political parties before, as soon as a candidate becomes the only candidate, he becomes the candidate of the whole community; therefore, its popularity must be tested.

“So in this election, what we have put in place is the Elections Act of 2022.”
