Our friendship was not damaged: Israeli-Palestinian rap duo
Two years ago, a rap battle in Hebrew and Palestinian Arabic went viral. The men behind it all were friends even though they came from different backgrounds.
Uriya Rosenman is a Jewish Israeli educator, Sameh Zakout is a Palestinian Israeli singer and actor. Together, they create music and advocate coexistence.
Uriya's friends were murdered and kidnapped during the Hamas attack on Israel on the 7th October, and during the subsequent bombing of Gaza, Sameh lost family members. Despite their grief, they continue to believe that there should be another path to peace.
“People want an easy solution. They want to write something on a sign and sing. You’re either pro-Israel or you’re pro-Palestine,” Uriya says. “It's difficult to live in complexity,” adds Sameh, “people are manipulated and play with our lives.”
BBC News spoke with both of them . on how they handle conflict and maintain their friendship.
