Oyetola inaugurates the Board of Governors of the University of Ilesa

The Governor of Osun State, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola inaugurated the Board of Trustees of the newly approved and chartered University of Ilesa on Wednesday.

Inaugurating Board Members at the State Executive Council Lounge, Governor's Office, Abere, Osogbo, Governor Oyetola instructed Board members to be fair and proactive in ensuring the financial viability of institution.

According to him, the idea of ​​this new university had become necessary to further expand access to quality education, among other opportunities, for the young population.

"As a state is known for excellence in all fields, we envision a citadel of excellence that will enter the educational space of the country as a leader in the tripartite mandate of the teaching university , research, and community service and will provide competitive graduates who will transform the state's economy in line with our development agenda and rule their world.

“To also underline our commitment to excellence, we engaged the services of KPMG to offer consultancy services on the successful start of the university.

"This is the profile of the university to which we have invited your eminences, convinced that your individual distinctions will bring the excellence and internationalization that we envision.

“I therefore urge you to embed in the university, as employers of the staff of its staff, the principles of impeccable university governance, appointment of staff and admission of students based on merit, internationalization of the university, sustainable funding of universities to achieve self-sufficiency, staff/student discipline, entrepreneurship and a stable academic calendar which will sustainably rank the university among globally recognized universities.

“Just as our administration has demonstrated that it is feasible to deliver services in a depressed economy, we charge you to demonstrate to the world that academic excellence is possible in the country’s depressing university system,” added the governor.

Meanwhile, former Minister of Health and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Isaac Adewole, is the Chairman of the Council.

The names of the board members were given as Chief Akinwande Akinola - Pioneer Managing Director, International Breweries Ltd; Professor Sola Akinrinade - Pioneer Vice Chancellor, Osun State University; Chief Bayo Jimoh, - Former Group Managing Director of Odua Investment Company; Dr. Charles 'Diji Akinola - Chief of Staff to the Governor of Osun State; Professor Labo Popoola Former Vice Chancellor, Osun State University.

The others are Professor Oluyemisi Obilade - former Vice-Chancellor, Tai Solarin University of Education; Mr. Rasheed Sarumi-GMD, SaroAfrica; Representative of the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC); Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Osun State; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Osun State; Statutory internal members of the University as provided for in the law of establishment, who would be added upon take-off of the University; Teacher. Kayode Ijaduola and Dr. Dada who will serve as Secretary of the Board.

Responding on behalf of the Board members, Chief Akinwande Akinola, assured that they were ready to go.

"It is a great honor to be part of the pioneering board of trustees of this great university. I answer on behalf of the president and we can assure you that you have left us a lasting legacy.

“There is no doubt that the name of Mr. Governor will be published in gold. It took us 30 years to upgrade this university and no one will forget what Mr. Governor granted us, and everyone is happy with this gesture,” Akinola said.
