An Abuja-based lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has called laughable the promise of outgoing Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, to grant one million votes in the state to the congressional presidential candidate of all progressives, Bola Tinubu, in the general elections of 2023.

Olajengbesi said it was ironic that Oyetola made such a big promise when he couldn't garner a million votes for himself in the July 16, 2022 gubernatorial election in Osun.

The attorney said that based on the outcome of the state's gubernatorial election in July and the victory of Governor-elect Senator Ademola Adeleke of the People's Democratic Party, residents of Osun had made their position known.< /p>

The PUNCH reported that Oyetola on Thursday at an APC march for Tinubu in Osun boasted that he would get one million votes for the APC presidential candidate by the youth intermediary.

Commenting, Olajengbesi said, "Oyetola's comment of providing a million votes to Tinubu is a joke taken too far. It's a mockery of Oyetola who himself couldn't get a million of votes in the July 16, 2022 gubernatorial election where he was defeated by Adeleke.

"For the record, according to the Independent National Election Commission, the total number of registered voters in Osun is 1,955,657 and the number of voting units in the state is 3,763.

"However, the July 16, 2022 Osun gubernatorial election results show that only 42.16% of the 1.95 million registered voters in the state cast ballots.

“Adeleke got 403,371 votes to emerge victorious while Oyetola got 375,027. Senator Adeleke won 17 of 30 local government areas, leaving Oyetola, an incumbent governor, with just 13 LGAs.” < /p>
