Former governors have been unfair to us – Abia Community

Residents of Umuokomiri Obehie community in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State expressed their gratitude to the administration of Governor Alex Otti for building a road in the community.< /p>

Speaking through the voice of Ben Nwokagbara and Chimeko Ezekiel, they said that completing the road project which was abandoned by previous state administrations would save them from abject poverty, create economic opportunities and would bring real development to their villages.

The Umuokomiri people have lambasted previous state administrations for abandoning them to wallow in abject poverty, even as an oil-producing region.

They further lamented that previous Abia administrations had been mean and insensitive to the dangerous environmental conditions of the oil-producing populations, saying that all they got from former Abia governors was nothing but false promises and wickedness.

They congratulated the administration of Governor Alex Otti and the Director General of the Abia State Petroleum Producing Areas Development Commission, ASOPADEC, Joshua Onyeike, for completing the Umuokomiri road, which had been abandoned for many decades.

Indigenous people in Umuokomiri recalled how businesses in the area had closed due to lack of road access, adding that car owners could not enter their community.

“We were in a big mess for a long time now, praying for a way out, before the intervention of the state government through ASOPADEC.

“The road was waterlogged, deserted and completely abandoned; our people park their cars at the crossroads and sometimes drive more than a kilometer to get home, but today the narrative has changed.

“It was like a dream for us, everyone is happily enjoying the road and we are eternally grateful to God for giving us Governor Otti.

“The previous era gave us false promises and did not meet our fate, but our history has changed today and the impression we had of ASOPADEC has also changed for good grace the pragmatic leadership of the current administration; it is an answered prayer for the Umuokomiri community,” said Chimeko Ezekiel.
