PDP and APC exchange words on Uzodimma's performance as Imo Governor

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo are at odds over Governor Hope Uzodimma's scorecard in the three years in office.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Governor Uzodimma assumed office on January 14, 2020, following a Supreme Court ruling that upheld his victory in the 2019 elections as governor in the state.

While PDP publicity secretary Collins Opurozor said Mr. Uzodimma's three years were mired in economic stagnation, mass shortages, insecurity and decaying infrastructure, the publicity secretary APC publicist Cajetan Duke rejected the statement.

In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the PDP and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri, Mr Opurozor argued that the biggest victims of the emergence of the governor Uzodimma are the Imo people.

He alleged that Mr. Uzodimma had, over the past three years, worked so hard to ensure that all democratic institutions of the state were dismantled and a full-fledged dictatorship was firmly established.< /p>

Mr. Opurozor further claimed that bloodshed, poor health care, collapse of education, decline in agricultural productivity, conscription of political space and violation of human rights have become on the agenda.

“For example, the local government system, which is a mechanism put in place to expand and sustain democratic space and spread democratic values, has been destroyed in Imo State.

"This is a huge tragedy! Imo is a state where more than 70% of the total population lives in rural areas.

“Yet the only channel through which governance can be delivered to the people has completely failed,” he asserted.

Mr. Opurozor also claimed that over the past 36 months, Mr. Uzodinma had received from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) a total of N180.6 billion earmarked for local governments in the state. /p>

“There is nothing on the ground today to show that even a kobo has been to local government areas.

"Senator Hope Uzodimma must, without further ado, tell the people of Imo where he kept the 180.6 billion naira belonging to local governments," he said.

He argued that Mr. Uzodimma had made relentless borrowing a state policy that had plunged the state into irredeemable debt slavery.

According to him, Imo is currently the most indebted Igbo state, with a debt profile that stands at N220 billion.

"This means that Senator Uzodinma's regime has doubled the debt profile in less than three years and the fundamental question is what has the regime done with the over 100 billion naira it has borrowed so far? now?"

He said that despite the borrowing, Mr. Uzodimma had made no effort to revive investment in the critically vital agro-industrial sector where Imo has a major comparative advantage.

"What Senator Uzodinma really needs to explain to the people of Imo is how he embezzled a colossal sum of 56 billion naira under the guise of building the 36 kilometer Owerri-Orlu road.

"Does the Imo administration want people to believe that one kilometer of road was built at the rate of N1.5 billion?

"This same Craneburg Construction Company, which works for Uzodinma, also completed the Lekki-Epe Road in Lagos State and the Ibadan Ring Road in Oyo State.
