The PDP condemns the withdrawal of the security personnel of the candidate of the Zamfara government

People's Democratic Party has asked Inspector General of Police Alkali Baba to reverse the withdrawal of security personnel from Zamfara State Governor candidate Dauda Lawal, citing provisions of the constitution.

The PDP also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Ikra Bilbis, Captain Bala Mairiga and other party members who were arrested and detained on the alleged directives of the state governor from Zamfara, Bello Matawalle.

The party gave the charge during a press conference by the party's National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba on Friday held at the party headquarters in Abuja.

The PDP has accused the Congress of All Progressives of being "confused by the rising popularity of the PDP and our candidates ahead of the 2023 general election have escalated their vicious assault and crackdown on the candidates of the PDP and other patriotic Nigerians in an attempt to silence PDP leaders and stop the overwhelming daily acceptance of our party's message of hope to Nigerians.

Ologunaba further accused the APC administration headed by Governor Bello Matagalle in Zamfara State of having set up a team of killers in collusion with certain elements of the police who started a brutal crackdown, arrest and detention of notable PDP leaders in Zamfara State based on unsubstantiated allegations as part of APC's plot to harass our leaders and other dissenting voices in the 'State.

"The PDP also instructs the Inspector General of Police to immediately reinstate the withdrawn security details attached to the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Zamfara State and take urgent steps to ensure the provision of adequate security to members of the PDP in the State consistent with the constitutional duty of the police to the people of Nigeria.

The party notably accused the Governor of Zamfara who also marked for arrest and detention are the Acting President of the PDP of Zamfara State, Mukhtar Lugga, incumbent members of the National Assembly ; Hon. Suleiman Gummi, Hon. Shehu Fulbe and other leaders such as Colonel Bala Mande, Salisu Maibuhu Gummi and Ahmed Garban Yandi in a heinous plot to put them out of circulation before the 2023 general elections.

“Other notable PDP leaders allegedly arrested include Farouk Rijiya, Abubakar Rawayya, Zangina Abdullahi, Mugira Yusuf, Usman Danmasani Nahuche, Yarbachaka Haruna, Bashir Shehu, Usman Mafara, Ahmed Mairiga, Colonel Yandoto, Nagambo Anka, Comr. Sale Maradun, Abba Oando, Suleiman Bukuyum, Rabiu Ilili Bakura, Mani Kotorkoshi, Maryam Buba, Abdulmajid Anka, Zayyanu Gusau among others who are now being hunted down by APC agents.

He added, "The APC's plan is to torture, brutalize and keep these PDP leaders in custody in order to pave the way for the APC militia to terrorize the people and scare them from participating in the electoral process, after realizing that the APC was rejected in Zamfara State.

“Our party has also been made aware of plots by the APC administration led by Governor Matawalle to arrest and detain the PDP candidate for governor in Zamfara State, Dr. Dauda Lawal.

"We alert Nigerians that security officers attached to Dr. Dauda Lawal have reportedly been withdrawn by order of Governor Matawall.

It therefore condemns in the strongest terms the action of the APC administration led by Governor Matawall, which has become a clear and present danger to national security as well as an enormous threat to our democratic process and the company's existence as a nation.

He emphasized that the people of Zamfara State cannot be intimidated while warning the Governor and the State APC not to confuse the peaceful and law-abiding disposition of the members of the PDP and the people of Zamfara State as a sign of weakness.

The party "demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Ikra Aliyu Bilbis, Captain Bala Mai Riga and other PDP members who were allegedly illegally arrested and detained on the orders of Governor Matawall.< /p >

It also instructs the Inspector General of Police to immediately reinstate the withdrawn security details attached to the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Zamfara State and take urgent steps to ensure the provision of adequate security to members of the PDP in the State of in line with the constitutional duty of the police to the people of Nigeria.
