The National Working Committee of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) maintained that the money paid to its members was not a bribe.

The NWC, after its meeting on Tuesday, said that the “housing allowance” had been duly approved and paid to the national leaders of the party in accordance with the terms of service and entitlements of staff and key leaders of the party. < /p>

The NWC also said the payment “has been subject to due party procedures in accordance with all applicable financial regulations and party payment approval processes.”

The party also decided to investigate reports claiming the payments were bribes.

The resolutions of the meeting were contained in a statement signed by the party's national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba.

PREMIUM TIMES has reported how some NWC members, in a letter to the National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, have refunded different sums ranging from 28 to 36 million naira. They cited backlash from media accusations of taking bribes as reasons for returning the money.

Members who returned the money are National Vice President (South West) Olasoji Adagunodo, National Vice President (South) Taofeek Arapaja; National Vice President (South) Dan Orbih and National Women's Leader Stella Affah-Attoe.

Earlier, the PDP described the corruption allegations as bizarre and unfounded motives.
