Plateau State Peacekeeping Military Task Force says its fight against bandits in the state is yielding positive results.

Speaking to the PUNCH in Jos on Monday after task force troops killed eight bandits during a clearance operation they carried out in Wase Local Government Area on Sunday, the spokesman for Operation Safe Haven, Maj. Ishaku Takwa, said a situation where bandits hunt residents and force them out of their communities would no longer be tolerated in any part of the state.

He noted that the activities of bandits had caused so much havoc, especially in rural areas.

According to him, the clearance operation against the bandits which he said began last Saturday, would continue until the bandits are completely defeated.

Takwa said, "Our men together with the local hunters carried out a clearance operation in the general Sabongari area of ​​Wase LGA.

"The exercise began on Saturday and on Sunday, eight of the bandits were killed during the operation.

"In the past, we had done similar exercises, and people were going about their normal business, but it seems that the bandits have regrouped and are disturbing the peace in the local communities.

"So the troops will continue the clearance operation, which had started until we clear the communities of Wase and other areas of the presence of the bandits."

Takwa sought the support of the population to enable the military task force to achieve its objectives.

He added, "We have established a field operations base in Wase. But we have also discovered that some locals are also colluding with the bandits to sabotage our efforts.

“Some of them who have infiltrated communities are also serving as informants for bandits. These are some of the challenges. information, and we have asked the local communities to fish out the bad elements among them and also give us timely information so that we can protect the people. But so far, I can assure you that our efforts in the fight against bandits in the state are showing positive results."
