The Ekiti State Police Command on Thursday arraigned a 40-year-old woman, Funmilayo Aduloju, at an Ado Ekiti Magistrates Court for allegedly biting another lady and injuring her during the operation.

The accused was dragged to court for assault.

Police prosecutor Inspector Johnson Okunade told the court that “the defendant committed the offense on July 12 at approximately 8:30 p.m. at Ekute ward in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

"The accused assaulted an Adetutu Abegunde, biting her with teeth in her left eye while he was fighting, which inflicted serious injuries on her.

"The offense violated Section 185 of the Ekiti State Penal Laws 2021," he said.

Okunade urged the court to adjourn the case to allow it to review the case and gather its witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge against her, while her lawyer, Mr. Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, promising that she would not skip bail.

In his decision, the Chief Magistrate, Mr. A.O Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the amount of N100,000 along with bail in a similar amount.

The Chief Magistrate has adjourned the case until August 3 for a hearing.
