Police arrest man with gun and ammunition in Enugu

Police officers serving in the Awkunanaw Division of metropolitan Enugu, with the assistance of the Neighborhood Watch Group, arrested 21-year-old Chukwu on Sunday for alleged illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition .

They recovered a locally manufactured pistol with an actual cartridge from the suspect during a surveillance and patrol operation on December 24 at approximately 9:30 p.m.

This is contained in a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, in Enugu on Monday.

Mr. Ndukwe said the suspect and his cronies are believed to be hatching plans to use the recovered items to further their criminal intent this festive season.

"This shows that the Enugu State Police Command's Yuletide 2022 safety and security plan has started to bear fruit in a positive direction," he said.

The police spokesperson said the matter was being investigated further and discreetly.

“However, operational, investigative and intelligence-gathering activities aimed at actualizing maximum security and safety in the state have been intensified,” he said. (NAN)
