Police confirm murder of sex worker in Delta

Delta State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old murder suspect, Emmanuel Ujedibe, for killing a sex worker in a hotel room in Asaba, the state capital.

State Commissioner of Police Mohammed Ali revealed it on Friday as he paraded the suspect with others at police headquarters in Asaba.

He said: "Police were called to the scene of the crime on November 4, 2022 by hotel management after the suspect fled committing the crime.

"We learned that he took the girl, who happened to be a sex worker, named Peace, to the hotel, then killed her and set fire to the room.

"He didn't stop there, because after hiding, he took himself hostage and called his father that he had been kidnapped.

"The suspect asked his father to send the sum of 4 million naira as a ransom for his freedom and later received 3 million naira before being arrested."

The suspect, who claimed to be a student at Delta State University, Abraka, confessed to the crime, saying he killed the victim by provocation after she allegedly stole his cell phone.< /p>

"Peace is my friend, I've known her for two weeks. I regretted my action because I never intended to kill her.

"What happened was we slept in the hotel room and when I woke up I noticed my cell phone was missing so I faced.

"We had a fight and in the process I got angry and killed her. I set the room on fire, it was a mistake on my part. The gas litter I was using for smoking caught fire.

On his fake kidnapping, Emmanuel said he lied to his father that he was kidnapped because he wanted to raise money to travel abroad.
