The officer whose name was given as Solomon Damak is being held at a police station in Jos while his trial in an orderly room will begin today (Monday).

The PUNCH had reported that the victim, identified as Nyommena Badapba, believed to be a resident of the Tudun Wada community, was shot in the shoulder on Sunday during an argument with the policeman.

The argument was based on who will win the next gubernatorial election in the state.

"The circumstance that led to the infliction of the gunshot wound by the recalcitrant officer was not in line with his professional vocation, but was committed out of revenge, which contradicts the attributes of an officer of Nigerian Police.

In order to ensure that the officer does not escape justice, the officer has been arrested. His firearm was recovered and he has since been held for disciplinary action.

"Plateau Police Commissioner, CP Bartholomew N. Onyeka, ordered the 'A' Division Divisional Police Officer and other officers to visit the victim in hospital to find out his condition and arrange for the payment of his medical bills.

"Command assures members of the public that the Commissioner of Police is a responsible cop who does his job with the fear of God and, therefore, will not tolerate any form of misconduct by any officer of his command, regardless of rank.< /p>

"As part of sound practice within the Force, the officer at fault has been found at fault and his trial in the orderly room will begin on 6 March 2023," the statement added.

The PC also ensures that the disciplinary process would not be compromised and that the outcome of the procedure would be made public.

He urged members of the public to remain calm and continue to obey the law, as the command is doing everything in its power to protect the lives and property of all Plateau residents.
