The year 2022 in crypto has been eventful in many ways. However, the negative impacts of a bear market have dampened the excitement around blockchain upgrades that have brought crypto ecosystems significantly closer to the future of finance.

For bitcoin, it was the Taproot soft fork upgrade, which aimed to improve the scripting capabilities and privacy of the bitcoin network. Ethereum has undergone the Merge upgrade from a proof-of-work consensus mechanism to a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism.
