Presidential rally: Tinubu supporters besiege Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos

The traffic situation in the Lagos metropolis on Saturday worsened as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere held its rally.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rally is for APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2023 general election.

The event, which brought together APC leaders, members, support groups in Lagos and contingents from neighboring southwestern states, sparked a traffic jam on Ikorodu Road, with Funso Williams Ave and l Surulere axis seriously affected.

NAN reports that Tinubu supporters marched excitedly through congestion to access the venue, which was occupied by a heavy security presence.

Dozens of campaign vehicles, mostly BRTs, commercial buses and private cars, which ferried party supporters to the rally venue, were parked on the main roads.

The main bowl of the stadium had been filled to capacity and the hall premises by noon.

While the rally had yet to begin at the time of writing, many supporters, who despite the scorching sun, were still struggling to enter the venue.

Thousands of supporters dressed in various campaign clothes, t-shirts and caps of different colors were busy blowing trumpets, waving broomsticks, raising flags and other party symbols.

The others are the wife of Governor of Lagos State, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, wife of Deputy Governors of Lagos State, Oluremi Hamzat, former Governor Olusegun Osoba of Ogun, former Deputy Governor of Lagos, Idiat Adebule, other dignitaries and various support groups.

NAN reports that popular Fuji star Wasiu Ayinde and other hip-hop musicians entertained fans with a play at the event to the admiration of attendees.

Also at the event were Nollywood stars such as Yinka Quadri, Saheed Balogun, Eniola Ajao, Modupe Daramola, Taiwo Hassan, Terry G, among others.

Security was enhanced at the campaign site, as security agencies and ad hoc security personnel were strategically located at the various entry points.
